Privacy Policy
Augmented Theatre is a companion app for live theatre performances. It is designed to work without accounts, without sign-in, and without collecting personal information.
Camera and microphone
During a show, some cues use the device's camera (live visual effects, torch) and microphone (audio-reactive visuals). The camera and microphone feeds are processed on the device only. No recording, storage, or transmission of video or audio is ever performed by the app.
Analytics
The app uses Firebase Analytics to understand aggregate usage (for example, how many devices ran the app during a performance). This involves:
- an anonymous device identifier,
- coarse usage data (app opens, session length).
This data is not linked to your identity and is not used for tracking or advertising. The app contains no ads and no third-party tracking SDKs.
Local network
The app's core function is receiving show cues over the venue's local Wi-Fi network (OSC over UDP). During a performance the app also broadcasts its state (startup/foreground/background), an anonymous device identifier and its local IP address on the same local network, so the show's technicians can coordinate cues. This information never leaves the venue's network and is not stored by us.
Push notifications
The app can receive push notifications about shows via Firebase Cloud Messaging. The push token is used solely for delivering these notifications.
Cloud media
Show media (audio, video, images) may be downloaded from our servers to your device before or during a performance. These downloads carry no personal information.
Augmented Theatre Dashboard for Mac
The Dashboard is the operator's app, run from the booth. It collects nothing: there are no accounts, no analytics, and no third-party SDKs of any kind. Shows and the media staged for them are ordinary folders on the operator's own Mac, in a location the operator chooses; nothing is uploaded anywhere.
During a performance the Dashboard serves those files to the phones in the house over the venue's own network, and listens for the delivery reports described above. Those reports carry an anonymous per-install identifier and a count of bytes received — nothing that identifies a person or a device's owner — and they are held only in memory, for as long as the app is running.
The Dashboard offers one in-app purchase. It is handled entirely by the App Store: we never see or store payment details. Whether this copy has been bought is recorded on the operator's own Mac, in the keychain.
Data sharing and retention
We do not sell, rent, or share any data with third parties beyond the Firebase services described above (operated by Google and subject to Firebase's privacy terms). We retain no personal data, because none is collected.
